'Installation of the week!'

Week 38: Pinky & Perky.
Classic British childrens´TV characters from the 60´s, Pinky and Perky, have recently reformed. Numerous appearances on breakfast television and a short season at the Edinburgh Festival have led to the filming of a new pilot TV series
for Planet 24.

Famous for their high pitched, cartoon like voices, the piggy duo looked for a way to replicate the effect that was originally done by recording onto slowed down tape, as this method from the 60´s would be of no use in a live environment. They chose the TC Electronic System 6000, and create the effect using the MD3 Multi-band Dynamics processor and VP2 Stereo Varipitch algorithms.

At the recent filming of the pilot TV show, the producers´ plan was to get Pinky and Perky to sing along to a pre-recorded band on set. Their only problem was that the pigs voices were pitched 7 semitones higher than that of the band. Sound engineer Duncan Stewart and head technician John Pearce came up with the solution of pitching down the original backing track by 7 semitones using the System 6000 and feeding that to the pigs´monitors. In the studio, they remixed the original music with
the effected vocals and brought everything back into tune. Clever swine!...
....the engineers, of course, not the pigs.
